Based on a bit of a lark, I attended Gustavo Razzetti’s Culture Design Masterclass on March 19th. I’ve been wanting to get around to talking about it for quite some time, so here are some reactions…

First of all, the attendees were outstanding. It was a very diverse and eclectic mix of folks that were fare wider than my typical “agile coaching” colleague universe. I enjoyed and learned much from the diverse perspectives.

Second, I want to highly recommend the Culture Design Canvas as a very general-purpose tool for exploring, exposing, understanding, and potentially changing your culture. As an agile coach, I saw many applications of it in my Enterprise-level agile coaching activity.

Third, the class was outstanding. It was very hands-on and experiential in nature. We spent quite a lot of time in breakouts and in Mural getting the chance to dive more deeply in leveraging the canvas in a virtual context.

Finally, I want to just add some kudos for Gustavo and Sofia. I do quite a lot of agile training myself, so I know a good pair of instructors when I see them. They were both master teachers and facilitators of the class. Clearly, they understood the canvas (Gustavo created it ;-), but beyond the knowledge, they met us with curiosity, respect, and a strong desire to provide value in the learning. I VERY much appreciated how they showed up in the class.

Wrapping Up

Culture is one of those things that I encounter in every one of my coaching engagements. It’s something that, at least in my experience, is an ongoing challenge to—

  • Visualize & Explore

  • Better understand

  • Compare and contrast

  • Re-shape, influence, and change.

I’ve found the Culture Design Canvas is an invaluable tool in my agile coaching toolbox. AND, I explore it in my Certified Agile Leadership classes as well.

Thanks for sharing it with us, Gustavo!

Stay agile my friends,

Bob.

As an added bonus to this post, Gustavo recently shared two articles that I want to amplify. One focuses on Burnout – https://www.fearlessculture.design/blog-posts/why-burnout-at-the-workplace-requires-psychological-safety

And the other contains a variety of company Cultural Examples – https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/11-examples-organizations-awesome-workplace-cultures-gustavo/
